My Biggest Complaint About Airline Fares: Airfare

I travel on airplanes several times a year. Unfortunately, I am a price shopper. If my employer paid me more I could shop for flights based on something else, but for now, price is the first consideration.

I really don’t understand how is calculated. For example I recently found an international flight leaving from Washington, D.C, flying through Atlanta, and then on to the destination. It was about $308 USD, a great price. My option was to drive to D.C or Atlanta (I live in just about the center of the two). The price if I got on the exact same flight out of Atlanta was several hundred dollars more than if I got on the plane in D.C and flew to Atlanta.

My biggest complaint about Airline Fares is that it often makes no sense.
