4th of July has always been one of my favorite holidays. Virtually no setup, no presents to exchange and nothing to buy but food, beer and explosives. I don’t care what you say, that combination makes a good holiday even if you’re not from the United States.
However, 4th of July happens to be one of those few holidays during the year that must be celebrated on the date. This sucks when the fourth falls on a mid-week day like Tuesday, Thursday or worst case scenario Wednesday, as is the case this year.
When the fourth falls on a Wednesday, there is no such thing as “4th of July Weekend”. It’s just Wednesday. You can’t really even go all out with fireworks late into the night or party really hard because you’ve got to get back to work in the morning. You can’t really travel because you don’t have any extra days.
We need an extra day if the 4th falls on a mid-week day, especially if it’s on Wednesday. We are talking about the penultimate patriotic holiday afterall.

Some of us had to be at work at 5am this morning….
Those dudes in 1775 or whenever it was - they didn’t make a fuss about getting to work the next day. I have a feeling I know what they’d say about this.

Yes they didn’t make a fuss (umm how do you know) well the fact is that back then 90 sum % of all people worked for themself now it is like 90% of all people work for the MAN. Trust me the MAN is taking his extra days off around the 4th. Even more of a reason you have to be at work to cover for the MAN!
